This is a ‘lightly-fictionalised’ account of taking part in a 50-mile walk organised in the early 1960s by my school in response to a challenge issued by President John F Kennedy to the US Marines. It describes an almost successful day of walking in a huge circuit from Weymouth via Dorchester to the east of the county and almost back again.
